On Dec. 19, the CREB® Charitable Foundation was honoured at Inn from the Cold’s newest shelter opening ceremony for its $125,000 Investing in HOPE donation.
This year, the Inn took home the foundation’s top Investing in HOPE grant of $125,000 at the foundation’s 30th anniversary celebration in September. Funds went toward renovations of the Inn’s newest shelter initiative, Journey House 2, where its first floor has been named the CREB® Charitable Foundation First Floor of HOPE.
“It is wonderful to be part of such a fantastic initiative with our friends from Inn from the Cold,” says CREB® Charitable Foundation president Rob Campbell. “With the Inn being the recipient of our top Investing in HOPE grant this year, we are thrilled the donation will go towards the development of the house’s first floor, which will help put a safe, warm roof over many local families.”
Located in the inner-city neighbourhood of Crescent Heights, Journey House 2 is a 10 unit, three-bedroom apartment building that represents an important step forward in the Inn’s vision of building a community where no child or family is homeless. It is the second housing project the Inn has taken on and will serve as a community hub to encourage and support 10 families in their transition from homelessness to being at home in the community.
“Thank you CREB® Charitable Foundation for playing a vital role in the lives of those who come to the Inn,” says Abe Brown, Inn from the Cold’s Executive Director. “With the funds, the CREB® Charitable Foundation First Floor of HOPE will change lives and help move families beyond housing crisis into homes.”
