About a week ago, I had a call from a very cerebral and engaged member who was frustrated by the number of pictures of snowy homes in our MLS® System.
We both commented on how exceptionally green everything is right now and agreed how unprofessional outdated listings look. I was right up on my high horse yakking away about accuracy and completeness being the hallmarks of a quality database.
But then it occurred to me . . . what does our homepage image look like on creb.com?
As we talked, I casually clicked over to see if we had updated our main photo. NOOOOOO, there was a wonderful winter photo of a nearly frozen Bow River—so much for my holier than thou rant about the urgency to update listing photos.
One of our brilliant leaders in our Communications department jumped on this, and in very short order, a beautiful new photo was online displaying the city skyline in its entire current green splendor.
Here is the rub, as I write this on Wednesday afternoon May 24, it’s snowing. The snow is actually an upgrade for me from the rain because it causes the roof above my office to leak, which moisturizes the ceiling tiles above me – sorry, I digress, oh how I digress!
What I’m aiming to discuss today, Mr. or Ms. CREB®bies, is you’re not off the hook – get your listing photos updated! It is critically important that you do sweat the little things and represent your listing in the best light possible. Despite our crazy weather, nobody will gravitate towards a home with a foot of snow on the roof, unless they hope to steal it.
To those of you that do pay attention to detail, I congratulate our more progressive members who have adopted the practice of uploading floor plans and measurement reports to their listings. This CREB®bies, is brilliant marketing – and every one of you should do it.
