Teams unite for affordable housing

Yesterday, two teams of REALTORS® were united in a friendly affordable housing competition. Despite the cold weather conditions, these superhero volunteers warmed the hearts of the community at Habitat for Humanity’s build challenge in Bowness.

The 24 CREB® Charitable Foundation volunteers went two home sites for a full day of team-building and camaraderie. The highlight of the day was the Golden Hammer Competition – a Survivor-like game that had the two REALTOR® teams test their skills during a construction-themed skills race. Both teams put in a valiant effort, but it was the “Black” team that took home the top prize with the “White” team just behind by three points.

“The CREB® Charitable Foundation is proud to be part of the contributions provided by Habitat for Humanity’s Southern Alberta chapter,” said Aneve MacKay-Lyons, CREB® Charitable Foundation Manager. “This organization has helped so many families into their homes. With AREF’s support through this initiative, our REALTOR® members are creating something extra special.”

Every Habitat home is the result of tremendous support, through donations of funds, contributions of building materials and skilled labour, and volunteer work. This is one of many collaborative builds these three organizations have worked on together.

“At Habitat for Humanity, we’re dedicated to providing a sustainable home ownership solution for families,” said Gerrad Oishi, Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta President and CEO. “This is only possible through our community’s support, and we’re so grateful to the CREB® Charitable Foundation and AREF for their dedication in making this a reality for more families in Calgary and the surrounding area.”

The CREB® Charitable Foundation would like to thank NOtaBLE restaurant for catering the build challenge. Chef Michael Noble and his team were fabulous to the volunteers and provided warmth and nourishment on cold and blustery day.

The build day was part of a $100,000 commitment to Habitat for Humanity from the CREB® Charitable Foundation with funding support from the Alberta Real Estate Foundation (AREF).
