As someone who sold real estate for over 26 years, I started to recognize how my psyche would cycle around market cycles.
I’d hit the ground hard in the new year after giving my mind and body some down time over the holidays. For me the annual CREB® Christmas Holiday Luncheon felt like a New Years Eve party. It would be a day of all out fun that would signify, what felt like, the end of the year. By mid-December prospecting would die-off, showings would stop, and potential sellers wanted to wait until the new year to “run the numbers” and look at listing their home. What better way to signify the end of the real estate year than to have a “REALTORS® New Years Eve” at the CREB® Christmas Holiday Luncheon and REALTOR® After Party.
Put a group together and catch up with people you did deals with or better yet, want to close a deal with. Bury the hatchet (just under the collarbone is a good spot) with someone you had a dust-up with by buying them a drink and sharing a bond for representing clients first, but not taking things personally. If you’re an experienced REALTOR®, bring a new-comer to the party and introduce them to people you love doing business with.
If you are a new real estate professional, you probably won’t sit and wait for that invitation. Some of you have the moxie to buy a couple of tickets and invite an experienced REALTOR® to have them introduce you to the must-know people in Calgary and area real estate.
This is a family party, bring your favourite mortgage broker, lawyer or just bring your bestie. For many years, I brought my wife Rona and it soon became obvious that most of you were more excited to see her than me. Which I love.
Of course, the market activity doesn’t stop after a fantastic luncheon on December 13. Sure, you’ll be hoarse from laughing and singing along with the duelling pianos (yes, they are back by popular demand), but that deal you put together on December 24 or between Christmas and New Years may go a little smoother if you got to know the other agent at the REALTOR® After Party hosted at Marquee Beer Market.
So, Rona will be there, I’ll have a pocket full of drink tickets, and I’ll see you all there!
