Thanks to great member participation, family homes are starting to emerge at Habitat for Humanity’s Silvercreek building site in Silver Springs. And for single mom Amsale this is more than exciting news.
“My kids and I moved from one cold basement to another as we kept leaving unsafe, unhealthy situations,” said the mom of Ruhamah, 9, and her brother Zekarias, 8. Currently living in a one-bedroom apartment where Amsale takes the couch and leaves the bedroom for the kids, the family has been matched to move into the first eight-family building slated for completion this December.
In 2018, CREB® Community Investment and Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta entered into a three-year partnership with CREB® investing $1 million. The legacy project will see 32 new stacked townhomes in Silver Springs housing 32 low income, well-deserved families.
With completion set for 2020, our partnership is going strong and this month marks our halfway mark.
By 2021 the Silvercreek development will be home to 32 low-income families. |
To date, the foundations on the first two buildings have been set, and framing is almost complete on the third floor of the first building. The roof construction is almost complete and the mechanical trades (plumbing, heating and electrical) are ready to start their phase of the work.
“We’re truly thankful for the steady flow of individual volunteers on build days. Their efforts have contributed to the significant progress we’ve made,” said a grateful Oishi.
REALTORS® from all over Calgary are making a huge difference for families like Amsale and her children. Read here for full Habitat project updates.
“We’ve been through so much, but now, thanks to all the special volunteers, I can provide the most important basic need for my family,” says an excited Amsale.
