The question is . . . How does this apply to our industry?
Open Houses
Masks required: Yes
Open Houses are considered a public indoor event and masks are required to be worn by all parties.
With The City identifying an Open House as a Business, you are also required to post a sign at all public entrances of the premises in a prominent location, advising of The City bylaw requirement for face masks to be worn. Click here for the city sign.
Under the bylaw, The City states:
Failure to wear a face covering where required can result in a penalty of $50.
Failure to display signage can result in a penalty of $200.
Showings
Masks recommended: Yes
Though showings are not specified in the bylaw, the action involves bringing a member of the public into an indoor space. For this reason, it would be prudent and best practice for all parties to be wearing a mask during a showing.
Exemptions:
The following people are exempt from the requirement to wear a mask or face covering:
- People with underlying medical conditions or disabilities inhibiting their ability to wear a face covering;
- People who are unable to place, use or remove a face covering safely without assistance;
- Children under two years of age.
Proof is not required if someone has an exception. Businesses are also not expected to deny services as not everyone is required to wear a face covering.
Outside of Calgary
REALTORS® have a requirement to be compliant in the municipalities where they are active.
Rules around COVID-19 are constantly changing and REALTORS® need to be proactive to make sure they are up to date on municipality rules.
