2020 REALTOR^® of the Year – T.W.H. (Bill) Saunders Memorial Award

Gareth Morris

The REALTOR^® of the Year – T.W.H. (Bill) Saunders Memorial Award is presented to CREB^® REALTORS^® who exemplify professionalism, leadership and selfless dedication to CREB^® and to the greater community.

Gareth is no exception to these standards, proving to be both a genuine leader and a true person of character. Throughout his 13 years as a member, Gareth has been very involved at CREB^®, in his community and internationally.

He quickly found this calling and passion with our REALTOR^® Community Foundation, contributing countless hours to fundraising initiatives and event planning before moving up into a Governor position on the Foundation’s board.

In the community, Gareth served in various coaching and leadership roles both in business and sports, and has volunteered with the Humane Society, Brown Bagging for Kids and leads his local community Facebook page.

He spent time living in Africa reporting back to the European Union, the US State Department, and other government agencies as he assisted in an international development project in Luanda. He also spent time in Tibet working with village elders in setting up wind turbines.

This outstanding REALTOR^® has great compassion for others and is most deserving of this award. Congratulations, Gareth!

2020 CREB^® Volunteer of the Year – Marilyn Jones Memorial Award

Murray Scotton

The CREB^® Volunteer of the Year - Marilyn Jones Memorial Award is presented to a CREB^® member who embodies the spirit of volunteerism and community service.

Murray has been a member of CREB^® for 13 years, is a passionate volunteer and a strong advocate for our REALTOR^® Community Foundation. 

He has been a regular face at our volunteer events over the years, always there to lend a hand in wherever needed. In 2019, Murray attended every single CREB^® Habitat build day, volunteering over 100 hours.

Murray served as a Governor with the Community Foundation for many years prior to his role as Chair. He is a leader who truly leads by example. Congratulations, Murray!

Honourary Life Member Award Recipients

Bill MacDougall

Bill has been a member of CREB^® for 18 years and is the Broker of Optimum Realty Group.

He actively serves on various CREB^® committees including the Board Development and Leadership Standing Committee and CREB^®’s Political Action Committee. Bill was the winner of AREA’s Government Relations Award and also works as an instructor for CREB^®.

Lowell Martens

Lowell has been a member of CREB^® for 45 years and is a past recipient of CREB^®’s REALTOR^® of the Year award.

In December of 1992 he purchased RE/MAX Real Estate Mountain View, and his company currently has approximately 140 agents in three locations. Over his years as a broker/owner, he has served on several boards and committees, including CREB^®’s Board of Directors, REIX Advisory Committee and RECA Audit Committee.

Sarah Johnston

Sarah has been a member of CREB^® for 15 years and has been highly involved in board leadership.

In addition to her work as Chair on the board, she has been involved in CREB^®’s Political Action Committee and has volunteered at many of our Foundation’s community events. From this dedicated volunteer work, to sharing her experiences and stories online, to speaking in front of large crowds or meeting other REALTORS^® for coffee, Sarah is trying to raise the bar in real estate.

Please note, we will be hosting our REALTOR^® of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Honourary Life Member award recipients and Long Service award recipients at a virtual Diamond Gala event on June 23. Later in the year, CREB^® will be hosting a separate event to recognize our Board Builders.
