Last week, the CREB® REALTOR® Community Foundation officially presented its 2021 Legacy Grant recipient, HomeSpace Society, with a cheque for $300,000.
The funding will help HomeSpace with their project to convert Sierra Place, a downtown office tower and former home of Dome Petroleum, into affordable housing.
When completed, the $28.5-million project will feature 82 one-, two- and three-bedroom affordable housing units across six floors, with occupancy scheduled for summer 2022. Funding is expected to come from a variety of sources, including the City of Calgary, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp., private donors and the CREB® REALTOR® Community Foundation.
The project is one of the first major revitalization efforts under the City of Calgary’s new Greater Downtown Plan and supports CREB® REALTOR® Community Foundation’s goal of creating new housing and shelter options within the community.
HomeSpace's Emily Campbell and Wendy Cundall (left to right) accept the cheque and discuss the revitalization project with Murray Scotton, chair of the CREB® REALTOR® Community Foundation, and Jason Yule, CREB®'s director of communication services.
