From discussions on member engagement in the One Alberta Membership strategy to provincial administrative justice, there was no shortage of action at CREB®’s board of directors meeting on Jan. 27.
Board meeting highlights
Here are some highlights from the Board of Directors Meeting Report – Jan. 27, 2021:
- The board had an in-depth discussion on the most effective way to engage members in the One Alberta Membership strategy and options. The goal to open this conversation with members in an open-minded and inviting way required consideration of the many challenges this project presents, but as we heard from the One Alberta Membership Task Force, now is the time to start talking openly about the future.
- In order to have a qualified senior leader available to represent CREB®’s interests, it became apparent that appointing an individual to liaise with Pillar 9™ on behalf of the board would be beneficial. Embracing the whole-board leadership principle, Dan Stante was appointed to work closely with the President & CEO in this capacity.
- Finalization of the 2020 year-end financials and the audited financial statements is underway and on schedule. The 2021 budget has been posted to CREB®Link.
- In line with the Government of Alberta’s mandatory restrictions, CREB® returned to Phase 1 of its pandemic response, with the building locked, member services offered on a by-appointment-only basis, and the majority of staff working remotely. Timing for CREB® to resume its re-entry plan is dependent upon the Province of Alberta easing restrictions.

About CREB® BOD meeting reports
In February 2020, the board of directors began generative discussions on how to best communicate topics being covered at the board table.
After a detailed review, the Governance Standing Committee made a recommendation to amend the CREB® Governance Manual Policy 2.1.6 Board Meeting Policy to require the posting of a board meeting report. Now, following each board meeting, a meeting report will be shared with members that summarizes what was discussed.
