This week’s bulletin includes an update on the City of Calgary’s masking bylaw and implications for CREB^® members.

Changes to Calgary’s masking bylaw

As of July 5, 2021, the City of Calgary has lifted the mandatory mask bylaw.

In keeping with our commitment to align with government public health measures, effective immediately, masks are no longer mandatory at CREB^®.

Masking is now optional, and we encourage anyone who wishes to wear a mask while in the CREB^® building to do so. The health and safety our staff and members is our top priority so please continue to physical distance when possible.

What this means for our members when entering properties: 

Although the City of Calgary has repealed the bylaw surrounding mandatory masking, under the current showing rule relaxation, seller’s instructions on additional health and safety measures, such as mask wearing, still need to be adhered to.

Please ensure that any additional seller instructions are communicated to the showing agent, ideally in writing, to prepare buyers for their showing. Showing agents are responsible for ensuring they and their buyers observe seller’s instructions during showings, under their duty to maintain care and control of the property while showing.

Therefore, we recommend that members continue to have a conversation about masks with their clients to determine personal preferences and ensure the comfort of everyone in these changing times.

Optional health and safety guides are available to assist with conversations and/or obtain written instructions regarding mask usage and can be found here. Please note these can be used in conjunction with other forms.

For jurisdictions outside of Calgary, members should visit the municipal website to ensure compliance.

Please note, the Showing Rule Relaxation will remain in place over the summer and will be revisited by AREA in conjunction with local Boards/ Associations in the fall.
