The Guidebook for Great Communities is one of many tools in the City of Calgary’s planning arsenal that work together to make Calgary a welcoming city and a great place to live.
The guidebook considers how communities in Calgary can adapt and evolve, helping them to remain vibrant and prosperous over the long term for all Calgarians. After a local area plan is approved, the guidebook also helps to guide planning applications.
The policies in the guidebook build on the Municipal Development Plan and are based on the principles and goals central to creating and maintaining great communities for everyone. These principles include:
- Opportunity and Choice
- Health and Wellness
- Social Interaction
- The Natural Environment
- Economic Vitality
- Identity and Place
