The importance of accuracy

By CREB®

Accurate information on the MLS® System is key to keeping a high standard of professionalism in the industry.

This article is part three of the four part series on how to avoid the top rule violations of Q3.

Please keep these tips in mind when taking a listing and uploading it onto the MLS® System:

Pay attention to detail

Taking the time to make sure your MLS® System listing is complete and accurate will help save you time, make sure your listing shows up in searches and can prevent errors that may lead to misalignment with the rules or potentially lead to litigation.

  • Do your own research. Mistakes can happen when REALTORS® rely on historical property information in the MLS® System.
  • Preview your listing: Reviewing your listing’s Agent Full report before activating your listing can be helpful to spot errors.

Previewing your listing is simple!

  1. Save the listing as incomplete.
  2. On the Pillar 9™ Matrix Homepage under My Listings click My Incomplete Listings.
    my incomplete listings
  3. Click on the listing you want to preview.
  4. Preview the listing as it would appear on the MLS® System.

Know your listing

Common fields that should be double checked include:

  • Lot Size (if listing a conventional condo, enter 0, not the size of the land)
  • Condo Type (check out “How do I determine condominium type?” in our Condo FAQ’s)
  • Map Location (when previewing the listing, click on the address to double check accuracy)
  • Total Above Grade Size
  • Garage Type
