The importance of lobbybox etiquette

By CREB®
The CREB® Lobbybox program places a centralized lockbox for apartment style condominiums in a discreet but safe place. This allows for easy and efficient access to listings for REALTORS®, but for this to be possible, the keys always need to be available.

We have received several calls notifying us that keys/fobs have been going missing. If you happen to leave a listing and notice that you forgot to return the key/fob, it needs to be returned immediately, so there is no loss of showings, and no stress caused to the clients.

When keys go missing and are not returned in a timely manner, it causes stress and places the hassle on the listing REALTOR® and client. They miss out on potential showings, have to track down the missing key/fob, and then have to follow-up to ensure the key/fob is returned.

There are steps all REALTORS® should adhere to when using a lobbybox to ensure smooth showings for everyone involved.

  • Locate the CREB® Lobbybox in the vestibule/entryway or outside of the building.
  • Open the CREB® Lobbybox and take the available key or fob to gain access to the building.
  • Return the key or fob to the CREB® Lobbybox once you have gained access to the building.
  • If the key or fob is needed for the duration of your showing, please place a business card inside the CREB® Lobbybox. This will let the next REALTOR® know that the key or fob is in use and not missing.
