REALTOR.ca is instrumental to the success and reputation of REALTORS® in Canada. It’s the leader in the real estate portal landscape in Canada, putting REALTORS® at the heart of consumer buying, selling, and renting journeys and delivering millions of leads to members every year.
The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) is committed to ensuring the preparation of REALTOR.ca to lead future technological change while protecting the long-term sustainability of this unique and extremely important asset.
Following the 2023 CREA Special General Meeting (SGM) held in October 2023, CREA has formed a skills-based REALTOR.ca Task Force charged with reviewing, analyzing and making recommendations on a draft business case that will include a full evaluation of the benefit, cost and risk of options for REALTOR.ca as a separate, taxable company.
The Work of the REALTOR.ca Task Force
The work is focused and making progress in three main areas:
- Governance: by-laws, articles of incorporation, shareholder agreement, etc.
- Financial analysis: revenues, costs, risks, five-year model, etc.
- Operating model: transition plan, shared services, proposed new model, etc.
2024 CREA Open Forum and Annual General Meeting (AGM)
On Tuesday, April 16, CREA will host its 2024 Open Forum and AGM. To ensure the organization prioritizes ample time for consultation and engagement, CREA’s Board of Directors has recently decided there will not be any vote(s) on the draft business case at the 2024 CREA AGM.
Instead, during the Open Forum portion, CREA will conduct an engagement exercise to share some of the work to date and collect feedback.
CREA Special General Meeting (SGM)
At a future date, CREA would host a CREA SGM for delegates to vote on the final business case.
Between now and then, CREA will provide ample opportunity to engage with its members and hear their feedback on all elements of the draft business case.

The vision for the future of REALTOR.ca is that it remains Canada’s premier real estate technology platform. That it be first and best to search, as or more relevant to shifting consumer demographics, designed to bring consumers and REALTORS® together, and self-sustaining.
Let’s be clear:
- REALTOR.ca is not for sale and never will be. REALTORS® will be the only owners of the new company via their membership with CREA.
- No shares in the new company will be leveraged, sold, licensed, or subscribed.
- All new company net revenue will be reinvested in REALTOR.ca to maintain and grow its leading market position in service to REALTORS® and consumers.
The new company will not sell advertising on listing pages, and it will not sell leads back to members.
