It’s mental health awareness month, and while this year’s theme is compassion, we want to take this opportunity to check in with you with an overall mental health moment.
The last few years have been rough. COVID forced our industry to change unexpectedly as business practices had to quickly adapt in response to public health orders, reliance on technology increased, and connections to our family, friends and colleagues were impacted.
Post-pandemic, the influx of new licensees in a competitive industry with many factors such as limited inventory and managing of the client experience have heightened the intensity and demands of an already intense, demanding career.
While these could be considered “part of life,” the sustained pressure that our members are facing in their careers and personal lives can take a toll and have dramatic impacts on their physical and mental health.
So, if someone in your Brokerage or real estate community say they’re “ok”, take a moment to check in and see if they really are. Or if you or your colleagues are experiencing a challenging period, traumatic situation, or have faced an unexpected life event that is causing stress, know that help is available.
CREB® members can access the REALTOR® and Family Assistance Program for free and confidential counselling services. The Victim Assistance Support Team is also available for anyone in the Calgary community who has been involved in or affected by a traumatic incident, tragedy, or crime. For additional support in Alberta use 211 Alberta for information on social, community, health and government services.
