Upcoming change to report a data error

By CREB®

Pillar 9 has reviewed the Report a Data Error function and gathered feedback from boards throughout 2024. Based on these insights, a new improvement is coming soon to enhance communication and efficiency when a data error is reported.

The Data Error function is the warning triangle icon that is found at the top right of the agent full display in Matrix. This tool allows agents to report errors they find on MLS® Listings.

What’s changing?

Starting Feb. 26, when a member reports a data error to their board, the listing agent and co-list agent will now receive an email notification in real time. This update provides an opportunity for the listing agent or co-list agent to review and correct any errors before the board’s staff gets involved.

Important notes

  • The notification sent to the listing agent and co-list agent will not include the reporting agent’s name.
  • The version sent to board staff will include the reporting agent’s name.
  • CREB® Member Practice will review these reports the following business day after they are sent.

Tips for effective reporting
To ensure efficient communication and resolution of data errors, please keep these best practices in mind:

  • Be concise – Clearly articulate the issue so the recipient understands the report.
  • Be helpful – Sharing accurate information helps others learn and prevents future mistakes.
  • Be polite – Mistakes happen; courteous communication fosters a professional environment.

Member obligation reminder

We understand that finding errors on the MLS® System can be frustrating and we appreciate everyone’s patience while the listing agents review the potential errors that their peers report, and work to adjust the listing. Please refrain from making unprofessional comments when sending an error report. Comments like these are unnecessary and are eligible to be reported to Member Practice.

Not sure what to write? A good tip is to stay focused on the error you see and not include comments directly or indirectly about the agent.

As with all board-supported tools, CREB® Rule Part I 4.05(b) applies:

(b) Communication from one Member to another Member through board-supported tools or systems must be courteous; disparaging remarks are not permitted. (See CREB® Rules Part II 2.01 for further Member obligations.)

Agents who receive a data error that seems disparaging or in breach of the rules are encouraged to reach out to the board to report the issue.
