Empowering the leaders of tomorrow

By CREB®
As part of our effort to enhance high professional standards in our industry, give back to the community and empower the next generation of real estate professionals and community leaders, CREB® and the CREB® REALTOR® Community Foundation proudly support students in Calgary through scholarships and endowment funds.

For the 2024-2025 academic year, these five University of Calgary students received financial aid from CREB® due to their outstanding academic performance and interest in real estate:

CREB® Undergraduate Scholarship in Real Estate | $5,000

Recipient: Mike Holowatuk, Bachelor of Commerce (Finance), Haskayne School of Business

"I'd like to thank CREB® for its generous support for undergraduate business students such as myself who are pursuing learning opportunities in real estate. I am very honoured and grateful.

“Receiving (this award) has made a significantly positive impact on my family and me. Awards like this make it especially motivating for students to strive for excellence in their coursework."

CREB® Undergraduate Scholarship in Real Estate | $5,000

Recipient: Nathaniel Foster, Bachelor of Commerce (Supply Chain Management), Haskayne School of Business

"This award is truly meaningful and means a lot to me as a recognition of my dedication to my academic studies. As a student taking supply chain management at the Haskayne School of Business, pursuing real estate was not my intention, however, completing the REAL 317 course sparked my interest in the field.

“This scholarship will not only alleviate the stress associated with the financial burden of my degree but has also provided me with the recognition of my achievements, motivating me to continue to strive for excellence in my academic and future careers.”

CREB® Undergraduate Scholarship in Real Estate | $5,000

Recipient: William Sorrentino, Bachelor of Commerce (General), Haskayne School of Business; Bachelor of Kinesiology (Kinesiology), Faculty of Kinesiology

"I entered my business degree without a lot of direction on which career path I would be interested in pursuing as I had a general interest in business but not a clear passion in one concentration over another. I was fortunate enough to enrol myself into Real Estate Development and Urbanization (REAL 317) in the third year of my undergraduate degree and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made during my undergraduate degree journey so far.

“The exposure to different real estate strategies, regulations and trends was something that genuinely intrigued me and motivated me to attend classes and perform assignments to the best of my ability. This scholarship has given me the opportunity to continue my education journey in the world of business and real estate with a major ease in financial pressure.

“As a student-athlete who commits many hours outside of my education towards athletic excellence, having this financial relief allows me to truly excel academically and athletically, without having as much concern over financial barriers that may have prevented me if I had not been a recipient of the scholarship. I am so grateful for the Calgary Real Estate Board’s generous donation and cannot thank them enough for providing the opportunity to receive and accept this scholarship."

George Loades Memorial Scholarship in Real Estate Studies | $2,200

Recipient: Matthew Dafoe, Bachelor of Commerce (Real Estate Studies), Haskayne School of Business

"I would like to extend a sincere thank you to each and every individual involved in the donation of the awards I have been selected for. Your donations have provided me with much-needed financial relief towards the invaluable experience that is my education at The Haskayne School of Business.

“Having funding towards my education gives me additional motivation to strive for excellence in my institution and field of study. I have been working hard since high school to fund my educational journey in order to gain the necessary skills, knowledge, connections and experiences that are essential to my desired success in business and the real estate industry.

“Receiving recognition and support from accomplished people in my intended line of work is incredibly meaningful and motivates me on my journey to one day make an impact on others who share my goals as student.

“Persistence through the enduring educational track with aspirations of success in my studied field is made significantly easier with financial support from within the industry. It is difficult to express the extent of my gratitude through writing, but I hope you recognise the significance of these awards in my pursuit of success. Thank you for these opportunities made possible through your donations."

CREB®'s 75th Anniversary Undergraduate Award | $5,000

Recipient: Bradley Araki-Young, Bachelor of Commerce (Real Estate Studies), Haskayne School of Business

"I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation, which has impacted my life. As I enter my fifth and final year, your support has come at a crucial time. Recently, I have been having trouble managing my ulcerative colitis, which led me to switch my entire diet.

This change, while beneficial in cutting out carbs and hard-to-digest foods, has been more costly, especially with how expensive food is these days. In addition, I used this scholarship money to help cover transportation costs when visiting my specialist doctor, which has made a big difference in managing my health alongside my studies.

I am deeply committed to instilling ethical leadership in all my future endeavours. Leading by example has always been important to me, whether in my past roles as vice-president of student associations or guiding my peers through collaborative projects. I aim to inspire others to act with integrity, transparency and empathy, values that have been foundational in my personal and academic growth. As I look to begin my career in real estate, I am excited to apply these principles to the professional world.

“Who knows, perhaps one day, I will play a part in solving pressing issues like the housing crisis? Once again, thank you so much for considering my application and your generosity. It has made a tangible difference in my health and future aspirations."
