You may have also heard that the quorum for this type of meeting is 50 individual members present at the meeting, in-person or virtually, representing or affiliated with at least five different brokerages.
A two-thirds majority (67%) is needed for the special resolutions to pass, and the math indicates that 34 members could make this decision. Nobody wants that to happen, and it won’t. We have worked very hard to connect with members through our open house sessions, brokerage visits, and communication outreach, including developing a dedicated hub on CREB®Link. The main goal being to get the message out that members need to either come in person or register online to let their voices be heard.
This is a historic decision and all our 7,000+ members need only to invest a very small amount of time to exercise their vote. We’ve been saying it loud and clear at every opportunity – this is a democratic process that will demonstrate what a well-informed membership can do.
Whatever the outcome of the vote is, your board of directors and staff will respect the result and move forward with confidence. We’ll have even greater confidence if large numbers of members vote. We selected a large venue that will seat approximately 3,000 people and our online capability will easily handle everyone else.
Please take the time to join us on March 15 and put your fingerprints on our future direction. One of the great strengths of the organization that will live on, whether it’s an innovative new part of AREA, or as we are now, is that we step up when called upon.
