These changes reflect the ongoing work of the Practice Governance Standing Committee (PGSC), which continually reviews member feedback, practice trends, and experiences to uphold the high professional standards that CREB® REALTORS® are known for.
These updates aim to enhance professionalism, ensure accurate representation in advertising, and foster respectful communication among Members.
For full details on the amendments, review last week’s CREB®Talk article highlighting the changes, offers practice tips and the CREB® Rules on CREB®Link.
New rule reminder period
We understand that new rules take time to get used to, which is why CREB® uses a Rule Reminder period of 90 days. Between December 16, 2024, and March 16, if a violation of the following new rules is confirmed, the member will receive a New Rule Reminder to raise awareness of the new rule and outline how to fix the issue. Only if the member doesn’t fix the issue would we begin with our summary offence process.
4.04 Advertising Standards
- Images and videos on an MLS® Listing must represent the characteristics of the property that a purchaser will receive in the sale.
- Members are only permitted to advertise residential rental income in the public remarks of an MLS® Listing when the unit or Suite is legal.
4.05 Acceptable Use
- Board-supported tools used to communicate or organize showing appointments must not create access restrictions beyond what is permitted by CREB® Rule Part III 2.03(b).
- Members may use the MLS® Listing private remarks to communicate a seller’s showing schedule preference.
If you have questions about these changes or need further clarification, please reach out to our Member Practice team. Thank you for your commitment to maintaining the highest industry standards.
